How to keep score in Ticket to Ride
In Ticket to Ride you score each route as you claim it, from 1 point for a single train to 15 for a route of six. At the end, add every destination ticket you completed and take off every one you didn't. The longest continuous path adds 10, and the highest total wins.

Score a route the moment you claim it, by how many trains it takes. Move your marker along the score track around the board.
| Route length | Points |
|---|---|
| 1 train | 1 |
| 2 trains | 2 |
| 3 trains | 4 |
| 4 trains | 7 |
| 5 trains | 10 |
| 6 trains | 15 |
Long routes are worth far more per train. One route of 6 scores 15, while three routes of 2 use the same trains and score 6.
Destination tickets
You start with three tickets and keep at least two. Later you can spend a turn drawing three more, and keep at least one. Tickets stay secret until the end.
When the game ends, everyone shows their tickets. A ticket whose two cities are joined by an unbroken line of your own trains adds its points. A ticket you didn't complete takes its points off, so a 20-point ticket left unfinished costs you 20.
That's why the score track never tells the whole story. A player in third place can win on tickets.
The Longest Continuous Path
The player with the longest unbroken line of their own trains takes the bonus card, worth 10. Count trains, not routes. The path can loop and pass through the same city more than once, but no train counts twice.
If two or more players tie for the longest path, each of them scores the 10.
Adding up at the end
The game ends when a player has 2 or fewer trains left at the end of their turn. Everyone, that player included, takes one more turn. Then count up in this order:
- Routes: check everyone's route points. A marker nudged on the track is easy to miss, so a recount by route length is worth it.
- Tickets: add the ones you completed and take off the ones you didn't.
- Longest path: 10 to the longest, and to each player tied for it.
The highest total wins. In a tie, the player who completed the most tickets wins. If that's tied too, the player with the Longest Continuous Path card wins.
Europe and the other maps
This page covers the original map of the United States. Ticket to Ride Europe scores routes and tickets the same way and adds train stations. Each player has three, and every station you never build is worth 4 at the end. Its longest path bonus, the European Express, is also 10, and routes you borrow with a station don't count towards it.
Other maps and expansions add their own bonuses, so check the rules in that box.
What people often get wrong
- Route points aren't the train count. A route of 6 trains scores 15, not 6.
- Every ticket you kept is scored. Unfinished ones count against you, so think twice before drawing more late in the game.
- The longest path counts trains. Five 1-train routes in a line make a path of 5, shorter than a single 6-train route.
- Ties for the longest path all score. Two players tied on 14 trains both take 10.
A scoring example
The final count in a three-player game, after Ben ran down to 1 train and everyone took a last turn.
Ana's routes: two of 6 trains (30), one of 5 (10), three of 4 (21), two of 3 (8) and two of 2 (4), 73 in all.
| Ana | Ben | Cleo | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Routes, recounted | 73 | 77 | 62 |
| Tickets completed | 41 | 21 | 49 |
| Tickets not completed | −11 | −22 | 0 |
| Longest Continuous Path | 0 | 10 | 0 |
| Total | 103 | 86 | 111 |
Ben led on the track with 77, and took the longest path. But his unfinished 22-point ticket cost him more than the bonus gave back. Cleo completed all five of her tickets, 49 points, and went from last to first.
