How to keep score in Sushi Go
Sushi Go is played in three rounds, and each round is scored when the last cards have been played. Every kind of card scores its own way, from 5 for a pair of tempura to 15 for five dumplings. Puddings wait until after the third round: most gains 6, fewest loses 6. The highest total wins.

What each card scores
Score the cards in front of you at the end of every round. Then clear them away, except the puddings.
| Card | Points |
|---|---|
| Maki rolls | Most rolls 6, second most 3 |
| Tempura | 5 for each pair |
| Sashimi | 10 for each set of three |
| Dumplings | 1, 3, 6, 10 or 15 for 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 and more |
| Egg nigiri | 1, or 3 on wasabi |
| Salmon nigiri | 2, or 6 on wasabi |
| Squid nigiri | 3, or 9 on wasabi |
| Wasabi | Nothing itself. Triples the next nigiri. |
| Chopsticks | Nothing. Take two cards on a later turn. |
| Pudding | After round 3: most 6, fewest −6 |
Count the rolls printed on your maki cards, not the cards. A maki card shows 1, 2 or 3 rolls.
Maki rolls and ties
After each round, everyone adds up the maki roll symbols on their cards. The most scores 6 and the second most scores 3.
Tied for the most? Split the 6 evenly, rounding down, and nobody scores second place. Tied for second? Split the 3, rounding down, so two players tied for second score 1 each.
Nigiri and wasabi
A nigiri you take while you have an empty wasabi in front of you goes on top of it, and scores triple. Each wasabi holds one nigiri. A wasabi with nothing on it scores nothing, and it can't triple a nigiri you took before it.
Puddings at the end
Puddings stay in front of you through all three rounds. After round 3, the player with the most scores 6 and the player with the fewest, none included, loses 6. Ties split the points, rounding down, so two players tied for fewest lose 3 each.
With two players, nobody loses points for having the fewest. If everyone has the same number, nobody scores for puddings at all.
Sushi Go Party
Sushi Go Party, the bigger box for 2 to 8 players, has you choose a menu of dishes for each game, and its rulebook gives the scoring for every card. This page covers the original Sushi Go card game.
What people often get wrong
- A single tempura scores nothing. So do one or two sashimi. Only complete sets count.
- Maki counts rolls, not cards. One card with 3 rolls beats two cards with 1 each.
- Dumplings stop at 15. Six or more still score 15.
- Puddings are scored once. Keep them across rounds and count them after round 3.
A scoring example
The last round of a three-player game, card by card, then the totals.
Ana had 5 maki rolls, a pair of tempura, 3 dumplings and a squid on wasabi. Ben had 3 maki rolls, three sashimi, a salmon, an egg, a lone tempura and a pudding. Cleo had 3 maki rolls, 4 dumplings, 2 puddings and an empty wasabi.
| Ana | Ben | Cleo | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Round 3: maki rolls | 6 | 1 | 1 |
| Round 3: tempura | 5 | 0 | 0 |
| Round 3: sashimi | 0 | 10 | 0 |
| Round 3: dumplings | 6 | 0 | 10 |
| Round 3: nigiri and wasabi | 9 | 3 | 0 |
| Rounds 1 and 2 | 41 | 50 | 44 |
| Puddings | −6 | 3 | 3 |
| Total | 61 | 67 | 58 |
Ben and Cleo tied for second in maki with 3 rolls each, so they split the 3 points: 1 each, rounding down. They also tied for most puddings, 3 each across the game, and split the 6. Ana had the fewest, 1, and lost 6.

Questions
How do you score maki rolls in Sushi Go?
Count the roll symbols on your maki cards. The most scores 6 and the second most 3. Ties split the points, rounding down, and a tie for the most means no second place.
How many points are dumplings in Sushi Go?
1 for one, 3 for two, 6 for three, 10 for four and 15 for five or more.
Does wasabi score on its own in Sushi Go?
No. Wasabi triples the next nigiri you take: a squid on wasabi is 9, a salmon 6 and an egg 3. An empty wasabi scores nothing.
When do you score pudding in Sushi Go?
Once, after round 3. The most puddings scores 6 and the fewest loses 6. In a two-player game, nobody loses the 6.
How many rounds are in Sushi Go?
Three. Each is scored when the last cards have been played, and puddings are added after the third.
Who wins a tie in Sushi Go?
The tied player with the most pudding cards.
